Rabbi Kaplan I have an idea / interpretation on the matter at hand. The sons of Aaron were euphoric by a wine which was the mystery or ideal of the sacrifice. They noted that the Kohen eat the offerings thus elevating the offering; therefore they brought forth the incense necessary and themselves were as an offering thus it says "fire consumed" them [in hope of being elevated] through HaShem. It's a scenario of union.
