Passover Haggadah in Depth — Episode 45
Rules and Regulations of the Seder Night

In this long-running series, we engage in close analysis of the ancient text of the Haggadah, its accompanying halachic instructions, and the authoritative commentary authored by the Rebbe. Our study integrates a wide range of classic and contemporary Torah teachings, with particular attention to legal definition, conceptual precision, and practical application.

Episode #45 — “Maror Mandate”

This opening segment of a new mini-series explores the mechanics of Maror — the ritual consumption of bitter herbs at the Passover Seder. Maror constitutes the ninth structural component in the architecture of the Seder, analyzed through the disciplined framework of the Rebbe’s Haggadah.

While Passover’s bitter herbs are often treated symbolically, in this series we approach them halachically. Through careful analysis of the mitzvah of Maror, we clarify the nature of this obligation and its precise role within the Seder night.

In this first installment we examine:
• Why we are obligated to eat Maror
• How it is primed to be consumed
• When the blessing over it is recited

A rigorous exploration of the Seder’s legal architecture, illuminated by the Rebbe’s authoritative commentary and enriched with a broad array of classic and contemporary sources.

Episode 45 of the ongoing “Haggadah in Depth” series has been generously sponsored by Charles and Mercedes Benarroch in commemoration of the Yahrzeit of Charles’s father, Messod ben Shalom, OBM.
