In Episode Eighty: OPENING THE FLOODGATES, we continue exploring the extraordinary uniqueness of our present era—the threshold of the ultimate transformation known as the Final Redemption. We also aim to understand what this means for us in practical, personal terms.
Building on the foundational premise articulated in the previous Episode; just as six days of weekly labor lead into the serenity of Shabbat, so too do six millennia of human history culminate in a cosmic Shabbat—the Messianic Era—we delve more deeply into the profound implications of our current “Erev Shabbat” moment in time.
The phrase entitling this segment “opening the floodgates” typically denotes triggering a release of something vast and previously restrained—be it emotion, movement, or consequence. But in Torah literature, it takes on a far more spiritual and prophetic dimension.
The Zohar (Parshas Vayeira 117a) famously teaches that in the 600th year of the sixth millennium (i.e., the year 5600/1840), “the gates of wisdom from above and the fountains of wisdom from below will be opened.”
This vision reflects a divinely timed outpouring of wisdom:
“Wisdom from above” refers to a surge of spiritual knowledge—the esoteric teachings of Torah (Kabbalah and Chassidus).
“Wisdom from below” alludes to secular wisdom—scientific discoveries, technological innovation, and worldly knowledge.
Thus, “opening the floodgates” represents a divine convergence: the simultaneous release of both spiritual and material knowledge, all intended to prepare the world for the coming of Moshiach.
In this episode, we explore how this unprecedented moment in history has made Pnimiyus HaTorah—the inner dimension of Torah—accessible to the wider public. No longer limited to elite mystics, deep spiritual wisdom is now available to ordinary men and women, signaling a true paradigm shift in the pursuit of Torah knowledge.
The foretold eventual accessibility of sacred secrets and esoteric wisdom thus heralds a newfound redemptive consciousness—planting the seeds of Geulah (Redemption) by inspiring a blossoming of messianic awareness across the world.
This important installment is lovingly dedicated as an Iluy Neshama for my revered paternal grandfather, HaRav Moshe Binyamin ben HaRav Aryeh Leib Kaplan, whose unwavering devotion to Torah study continues to inspire my own quest for Torah excellence and ever-deeper spiritual growth.
It comprises the Eightieth Episode of our ongoing study series about the (final) Redemption, referred to as the Coming of Moshiach (Messiah) — providing practical guidance and instruction of how to get us there faster!
